In this article, you will learn how to set up target-based optimization for Google Video ad campaigns.
This feature is designed to optimize your campaigns based on specific results rather than just budget constraints. It's currently available for Google accounts with active video campaigns and supports three result metrics: Impressions, Clicks, and Video Views.
For example, instead of just setting a budget, you can now set a target for the number of clicks you want to achieve. The system will then optimize your campaign to meet this target.
Follow the below steps to set up Configure your AI Group:
Objectives
Optimization Goals
Target Plans
Action Levers
From the AI Group drop-down, select the AI group with active video campaigns for which you want to Optimize based on targets.
Under Objectives, you can select your source of truth and define the result and revenue metric for your AI Group. Objectives help the platform understand your campaign goals and how they are measured. You will be asked to select how you track your campaigns.
You can choose from the below two options:
1. Use a third-party source: You can select any third-party attribution platforms used to track your objective. To learn how to integrate 3rd party data into Pixis, see Integrate 3rd Party Data.
2. Use the ad network: Select this if you track objectives set on your ad network. Here, you'll:
Input the Result Metric Name: Choose a Result Metric name that matches your AI Group objective. For example, "Clicks.”
Channels: Link your channels (e.g., Absentia VR with Google Video Ad) and set the result metric (like "Clicks").
Result Value: Add the result metric you want to optimize. Choose from the following metrics: impressions, clicks, and video views.
Revenue Metric: The Revenue Metric represents the monetary value generated by the Result Metric. Once you enable the toggle, you can select a Revenue Metric.
Attribution window: Only applicable for Facebook Campaigns.
Define your optimization goals for the AI group. You can choose between:
Budget-Based Optimization: Maximize results within specified budget limits. This option is the usual optimization flow that you can check in How to Setup Optimize?
Results-Based Optimization: This involves setting specific target results for a certain period, such as increasing sales or website traffic. It also takes into account optional budget constraints, meaning that the optimization efforts must be aligned with the available budget. The focus is on achieving the desired outcomes efficiently and effectively.
In this step, you can define the targets you wish to achieve under a set timeframe. This step is all about setting specific goals by creating a target plan. For instance, you can name your target plan "Clicks target budget", specify the date range (e.g., July 3, 2024 - August 3, 2024), set a maximum budget if needed, and define the expected result, such as aiming for 1000 clicks.
This helps you track and work towards achieving specific outcomes within a defined period. Once you've entered all the details, you can then move on to the next steps in your planning process.
Here, you can set up Result and Bid range for each channel in the AI group. Doing so ensures that all your channels actively try to reach their target result and bid, regardless of their performance.
In Action Levers, you can configure the actions the AI should take on the AI Group. Here, you can configure different levels to receive recommendations for Bids and Budgets. Also, you can set constraints on these actions as well as schedule when to generate the recommendations.
Here, you choose the actions best suited for your optimization needs. You can configure:
Bid Actions: Define the minimum and maximum percentage changes the AI can make (e.g., ±2% to ±15%) and the action frequency (e.g., once a day).
Budget Actions: Similarly, set the parameters for budget changes (e.g., ±2% to ±25%).
Outlier Actions: The Outlier Action Limit feature prevents extreme Bid and Budget changes until reviewed and approved by a Global Admin. It sets a default hard limit of -50% to 100% change but can be adjusted as needed. This limit is applicable at the campaign level.
Schedule Recommendation: You can schedule your preferred time to generate a recommendation.
Once you have configured these, click Optimize.
After successfully configuring the AI Group, you will be redirected to the fully configured Optimize Dashboard.
Once the AI Group is configured, the Optimize Dashboard provides an overview of the metrics that were set up, making it easier to understand the re-configured parameters.
Apart from the already configured options, you can set up the following parameters:
Action Flags
Target Planner
If you want to implement the recommendations on your Ad platform automatically, you can turn on the Action Flags for specific campaigns or ad sets. By doing so, you can ensure that the recommendations are implemented automatically at the scheduled time. Additionally, you have the option to receive email notifications for these actions.
The Target Calendar is used to schedule and manage your budget and performance targets. The Target Calendar provides a visual representation of your target achievements and goals on a daily basis, while the Target Results settings offer fine-grained control over how these targets are managed.
For example, if you are running a campaign aiming for 500 clicks in a month, the calendar will display daily targets to reach this goal. Additionally, if you believe on weekends there’s higher traffic then you can use target results settings to update the targets for weekends.
Monthly Calendar View: Allows you to switch between different months or custom date ranges. Each day shows the specific budgets and performance targets set for that period.
Pacing Options: You can select different pacing strategies or target plans, such as "Clicks target budget" or other predefined options.
Target results settings:
This will change the budget for all the selected days by the input percentage. Click update to see estimates. Make sure you deselect the days where you don’t want to adjust these changes.
Target Redistribution Type:
Automatic: Redistribute targets based on percentage change for the selected period.
Manual: Redistribute targets manually for each day.
